This program has been developed to help schools, organizations, and businesses deal with the on-going and increasing problem of bullying. Whether it be at work, school, or in some public place, bullying is a problem that impacts and hurts many people. Bullying survives by its isolation-all too often; no one tells that they are being bullied. The phenomenon of bullying needs isolation, fear, shame, and fear to survive. As long as a bully can keep the victim(s) isolated and feeling alone the bullying will thrive. Once the bullying becomes a public problem and there is a united effort to deal with it, bullying disappears.
In this program, participants will learn about bullying, what it is, what it isn't, and how to deal with it. We are going to look at this phenomenon of bullying from three perspectives:
When we impact all three of these arenas, we have a much better chance of eradicating bullying and solving some issues that make bullying possible. Please remember: Individuals who bully in childhood will most likely bully in adulthood and victims of bullying in childhood have a good chance of becoming victims of bullying in adulthood. The sooner we stop the problem, the better we do for a lot of people.
Bully no more is a program developed by a mental health professional. Bully no more is designed as a prevention and intervention program for the cessation of bullying behaviors.
Bully no more has been developed to be extremely user friendly. The curriculum can be given in one setting or in smaller doses in shorter settings. The suggestions for an on-going process make it easy to divide the program up into smaller sections that can be incorporated into any kind of lesson plan. It is also user friendly in that it can be accessed by one person or by a multiple of persons.
Bully no more has been developed in a variety of formats-in order to be used by different age groups-ranging from elementary school up to workplace settings.
Bully no more addresses five layers of an organization-the administrative level, outsiders-such as parents, the “hands-on” personnel, the bullier, and the bullied.
Bully no more helps participants develop definitions of bullying behaviors based on what is happening in their setting. Like many abusive behaviors, bullying comes in many forms and these forms may not always be identified as bullying, and therefore may be often accepted and even condoned.
Awareness of the various kinds of bullying behaviors is important in order to develop strategies for dealing and ending those kinds of behaviors.
Participants in the program develop awareness of bullying behaviors, who and what bullies are, who tends to be the victims, and the short/long term consequences of bullying-to those who are bullied, the bully, and those who observe the bullying.
The program is interactive and invites participant participation. Three sets of games are included with the program-self-esteem tools, cards for understanding the components of bullying, and scenarios to role play with the group. Suggestions and tools for on-going management of anti-bullying behaviors are also included. Participants who complete the program receive a “bully no more” bracelet to wear. The bracelet continues a commitment to anti-bullying behaviors, and hopefully develops interest in the concept/program when others see the bracelet.
